University System of Georgia Announces No Tuition Increase for the 2016-2017 Academic Year

Today, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) announced there will be no tuition increase for the 2016-2017 academic year.
鈥淲e carefully assess the tuition rates for our institutions and are committed to keeping college as affordable as possible for students and their families,鈥 said Chairman Kessel Stelling. 鈥淎s part of our commitment to college affordability, the Board of Regents has decided there will be no tuition increase for all USG institutions for the 2016-2017 academic year.鈥
Today鈥檚 announcement applies to all USG students, and means they will pay the same tuition at all 29 USG institutions for the 2016-2017 academic year as the current 2015-2016 academic year tuition rates for each institution.
鈥淲e have heard from students, parents and legislators regarding year-over-year tuition increases citing concerns about the rising costs of a college education in Georgia,鈥 said Chancellor Hank Huckaby. 鈥淲e recognize and share their concerns about college affordability. Today鈥檚 announcement demonstrates we are listening to students, their families and legislators and taking meaningful action.鈥
The Board鈥檚 action ensures the USG will continue to offer some of the lowest tuition rates among peer state public higher education systems. Out of the 16 states that make up the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), the USG is the seventh lowest in tuition and fees for four-year institutions.
